Hello everyone, I believe you probably still have a vivid impression about the online Open Day last Saturday. We received a lot of messages and feedback from parents. Today, let ’s take a look at some common questions and answers:
Can children in the lower grades boarding at school?
The school boarding is open to students in grades 1-9. Students in grades 1-3 take the lower bunk, while the older students of higher grades 4-9 take the higher bunk. So lower-grade students can lodge at school. Nonetheless, as lower-grade students requires more of daily family companionship, we recommend lower-grade students avoid school boarding as much as possible. Higher-grade students, with more ability to cope individually, are more suitable for boarding at school.
Q:What is the dormitory service like?
At present, each dorm room takes three students. The boarding facilities are very user-friendly, with different beds for students of different ages, exclusive space for activities, and a 24-hour security patrol system to ensure the students’ safety on campus. Meanwhile, in the evening the teachers in charge of self-study, governesses, school doctors, cleaning ladies, and the security are all within reach. Regarding the specific facilities of the dormitory, I believe the parents should make an appointment and visit the campus personally to have a more concrete idea.
Q: How do NAS Shenzhen handle the students’ electronic devices?
Electronic devices are now necessities to our daily life. However, everything has its advantages and disadvantages, we may not be able to prohibit the use of electronic devices, but we can make examples of ourselves to help them understand what the devices really mean to them. It is like the taming of flood: “guidance” is always more effective than “blockage”. So NAS Shenzhen will make sure the students learn that they are in control of the electronic devices instead of the other way around.
Internet resources: NAS Shenzhen offers sufficient electronic devices for the students’ learning applications. The internet resources provided are filtered, so that all information retrieved should be helpful for their knowledge growth and learning. Therefore, we suggest that the student not bring their mobile phones or other electronic devices to the school. If they do, the school will keep the devices for them. In case of urgency, the students may ask for his device and use it for limited purposes and period. There are also public phones in the school available to the students.
Outdoor activities: The biggest difference between school life and family life is in the outdoor activities and companionship. Therefore, the school curriculum also includes many outdoor activities, such as basketball training or five-a-side football. When the child takes more outdoor activities, he will develop a habit to run, explore, and compete with his peers in the nature, rather than hooked to electronic products, and self-control capability will be easier to establish.
The establishment of rules and order: the boarding students can use electronic products for half an hour every day, usually in the free activity period after they complete their homework. In this manner, the students may develop a sense of rules and learn when they "may" and when they "may not". Children with sense of rules and boundaries will feel more secure and be able to focus, which is essential in their adaptation to the modern society.
When implementing these measures, the students will inevitably feel uncomfortable at the beginning. But if the rules are implemented consistently, the children will develop a good sense of rules and self-control, thus enhance their socialization with other students. With these measures, the students may be able to use electronic devices while not being addicted to them.
