We wish you a happy National Holiday. We hope you will enjoy time strengthening family relationships and reflecting on the 70th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening Up and of Shenzhen! We look forward to continued progress and reform to strengthen families in developing a prosperous society in China and beyond!

Our flag raising ceremony this morning celebrated the fact that each anniversary is a reminder that another year has passed, and each new year is a chance to look forward to a brighter future, and a chance to do things again, to do them better and more in a spirit of right and goodness.

我們今天上午舉行的升旗儀式慶，慶祝中華人民共和國建國70周年。每一個(gè)周年紀(jì)念都提醒著已經(jīng)過去了一年，我們總是期待著更美好的未來。新的一年總有新的機(jī)會，讓許多的事情都重新開始。本著正義和善良的精神，積極地完成更多的事情，也把事情做到盡善盡美。

Recently, our eldest daughter, Emily, was discussing college application essays with me and my wife. At one point in the conversation, Emily said, “I should talk to you more about this. I have ideas, and it really helps me to talk with you about them. You also have good ideas!” Her comment made me and Gina feel happy.

Many students find that discussing college application essays with their parents and counselors is both enjoyable and helpful. Why is this? Discussion helps us express our feelings and thoughts using words, which prepares us to write better because our words become clearer—and clear wording is essential to good writing! Excellent writing in college application essays makes a tremendous difference in admission and scholarship decisions. Thus, discussing ideas for college admission essays both before and during the writing process is worth the time required because it will improve the likelihood of admission or scholarship offers.

許多學(xué)生發(fā)現(xiàn)與父母和指導(dǎo)老師討論大學(xué)申請論文時(shí)，既有趣又有幫助。為什么呢?討論可以幫助我們使組織詞匯來表達(dá)自己的想法和思想，這有助于我們更好地寫作，讓我們在遣詞造句上思路變得更加清晰，而清晰的措辭對于優(yōu)秀的寫作有著至關(guān)重要的作用!優(yōu)秀的大學(xué)申請論文在錄取和獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金方面產(chǎn)生了巨大的影響。因此，在寫作之前或其中，與他人討論你的論文是重要的，這將會提高你錄取或是獲得獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金的可能性。

The upcoming National Holiday is a good time for students to discuss college application essays with parents and peers. It is also a good time to begin drafting!

College application essay questions often ask students to think reflectively, look beyond themselves, and consider how they would like to make a difference in the world. Many universities are more willing to admit students who focus their writing not just on their own growth and personal benefit, but more importantly on improving the world and contributing meaningfully to the prosperity and well-being of others.

大學(xué)申請的論文通常要求學(xué)生自我反思，思考如何超越自我，如何改變世界。許多大學(xué)更愿意招收那些不僅僅將寫作重點(diǎn)放在自己的成長和個(gè)人利益上，更著重于改善世界并為他人的福祉做出有意義貢獻(xiàn)的學(xué)生。

Regarding our high school volleyball games on Monday, 9/23, Coach Chalyce Stevens reports, “Our volleyball girls did a great job against a top notch ISNS team. This was a very experienced team that plays well. My girls came out playing hard and competing so well we were ahead at one point. I think this surprised ISNS. It made them pick up their game to have to gear us this year! As they did, they surpassed us, and we were not able to recover. But I guarantee you that that team holds a higher respect for these girls more than they ever have due to the improvements and competitiveness they saw tonight that they’ve never seen before.”

The boys volleyball coach, Jason Tippetts, reported, “Our boys volleyball played against the only undefeated team in the league, ISNS. It was a great experience, and playing against them really helped us improve our own level of play. As coach I was really impressed with the attempts to block as well as the rallys, attacks, and side outs. After the game we continued to play with them so we could get more practice. We were grateful for the experience and opportunity to play against such a talented team!”

On Thursday 26 September 2019, in optimal playing conditions, ISNS welcomed the RDFIS Eagles to their campus.在2019年9月26日星期四，在極佳的比賽條件下，ISNS歡迎RDFIS Eagles來到他們的校園。

The MS boys game kicked off punctually at 16:00, where the team lined up in an attacking formation. David Jiang and Jackson Wang took up defensive posts. Harry Peng and Gavin Robinson would command the central areas of the pitch and distribute the ball to the educated right boot of Mike Liao and up and coming youngster Jason Liu.

初中男隊(duì)比賽在16：00準(zhǔn)時(shí)開始，我方擺出了全力進(jìn)攻的陣型。David Jiang和Jackson Wang肩負(fù)防御的重要任務(wù)。Harry Peng和Gavin Robinson將把控著我方陣地的中央?yún)^(qū)域，并將球傳給受過良好訓(xùn)練的Mike Liao和球隊(duì)中冉冉升起的新秀隊(duì)員Jason Liu。

In training this past week, the team has been working diligently on positional play, moving the ball quickly and remaining composed under pressure.

在過去一周的訓(xùn)練中，我方一直在努力進(jìn)行陣地打法的練習(xí)，快速移動(dòng)球并在對方不斷的壓力下保持穩(wěn)定的發(fā)揮。

The first goal of the match came from an unlikely source—through the goal keeper Taylor Wang. For the first time in RDF history, the goal keeper found himself on the score sheet straight from a goal kick. The celebrations were heard all the way in Dapeng. It was a relief to be back to winning ways and bounce back from last weeks 3 - 0 defeat.

比賽的第一個(gè)進(jìn)球來自意想不到的守門員，Taylor Wang。這是RDF球隊(duì)歷史上首度由守門員貢獻(xiàn)的進(jìn)球。慶祝的軍號聲一直傳到大鵬。我們重獲信心，從上周的3-0的失利中恢復(fù)過來，對于全體隊(duì)員和教練員而言無疑是一種解脫。

ISNS didn't take this lying down and soon found an equaliser. The whole team took responsibly for the goal, where we were guilty of spending too long on the ball and losing concentration.

ISNS并沒有對此驚慌，很快找到了一個(gè)平衡的節(jié)奏。整體都在負(fù)責(zé)任地為他們的目標(biāo)奮斗，反觀我方在球權(quán)上花費(fèi)了太長時(shí)間，失去了專注力。

Taylor, the goal keeper, once again stepped up and powerfully punted the ball down field. This vicious attempt asked questions of his opposite number, who could do nothing but parry the ball into net. The first half ended 2 - 1 in favor of RDF.

守門員泰勒(Taylor)再次挺身而出，強(qiáng)力將球打偏了。這次賭博式的嘗試失敗了，只能將球擋入了網(wǎng)中。上半場以2-1結(jié)束，RDF領(lǐng)先。

Both mangers had some thinking to do at half time. RDF made some changes which saw the introduction of Kevin Luo into the game. Kevin is a skillful Grade 7 student who possesses quick feet and the ability to beat defenders. RDF were instructed to keep going and get a third goal to secure victory.

兩隊(duì)的主教練在半場休息時(shí)都有一些各自的戰(zhàn)術(shù)想法。RDF進(jìn)行了一些改進(jìn)，將Kevin Luo換上場，他是一位球技嫻熟的7年級學(xué)生，擁有敏捷的腳步和撕扯開對方防守陣線的個(gè)人能力。RDF全體隊(duì)員繼續(xù)跟隨著前進(jìn)的號角，力爭通過第三個(gè)進(jìn)球來確保勝利。

Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. ISNS capitalized from chances which came through two free kicks from outside of the box. Both free kicks were hit with serious venom and were postage stamps bound for the top corner of the RDF goal. Even RDF students applauded the ISNS attempts showing the beautiful spirit in which all games should be played. The full time result ended in defeat for the Eagles, 3 - 2.

Valuable lessons were learned today such as accepting the authority of the referee and winning and losing like a team.

全體隊(duì)員都吸取了寶貴的經(jīng)驗(yàn)教訓(xùn)，例如接受裁判的判決以及以一個(gè)團(tuán)隊(duì)的面貌去面對勝負(fù)得失。

MS boys soccer has seen great improvement where our best result last season was a draw. This season, we have won 4 out of 6 games and are in contention for the playoffs scheduled for 11 October 2019.

初中男足取得了長足進(jìn)步，上賽季我們最好比賽成績不過是平局。但在此時(shí)此刻，我們已經(jīng)在6場比賽中贏得了4場勝利，并將于2019年10月11日進(jìn)入季后賽。

Finally, on Thursday, September 26, the high school volleyball teams played at VMA. The boys were victorious 2-1 in the matches, and the girls came close, 1-2.

最后，9月26日星期四，高中排球隊(duì)在VMA進(jìn)行了比賽。男隊(duì)在比賽中以2-1取勝，女孩以1-2的比分遺憾地失去了勝利。

* COLLEGE APPLICATION TRAINING 大學(xué)申請培訓(xùn)

The college application counselors from the Futian Wonderful Company office will provide college preparation training Monday through Thursday, October 7–10, from 7:00-8:30 PM in B-706 Auditorium at RDFIS. G7-8 will meet on Monday. G9 will meet on Tuesday. G10 will meet on Wednesday. G11 students will meet on Thursday. Parents are welcome to attend with their student (optional).

瑞得福出國總部辦公室的大學(xué)申請顧問將在10月7日至10日(周一至周四)，7：00-8：30 PM在RDFIS的B-706禮堂提供大學(xué)申請的相關(guān)培訓(xùn)。7-8年級將于周一舉行。九年級將于周二舉行。十年級將于周三舉行。十一年級將在周四舉行。歡迎家長們和他們的孩子一同參加。

* THREE-WAY CONFERENCES 家長會

Three -way conference between students, teachers, and parents will be held October 24th and 25th. At least one parent is encouraged to attend. This is an opportunity to meet with the teacher and discuss your child’s performance at school and how to achieve better academic performance. Please pay attention to the above date. Registration will begin after the National Day holiday.

家長會將于10月24日至25日舉行。這是與老師見面并討論您孩子在校表現(xiàn)以及如何取得更好學(xué)術(shù)表現(xiàn)的機(jī)會。請留意上述日期。國慶假日后，家長會將開放報(bào)名。

* HOME, SWEET HOME! 甜蜜的大家庭

Last week, several students took a weekend hike in the nearby mountains overlooking Dapeng. The pictures they posted were beautiful! Often I think of this beautiful area and want to share it with other families at the school. In fact, some RDFIS families have moved to Dapeng or nearby neighborhoods to be close to the school. These students arrive at school each morning and return home each night. Of course, this is a family choice. We know that living in Dapeng is not be an option for many RDFIS families, and some families prefer that their student live in the dorms. However, if you have flexibility regarding where you live, I invite you to consider beautiful Dapeng or the many excellent neighborhoods nearby!

上周，不少同學(xué)們在能夠俯瞰大鵬美景的山地進(jìn)行了一次周末徒步旅行。他們分享了美妙的照片!我經(jīng)常想到這個(gè)美麗的地方，并想與其他的教師家庭分享。一些RDFIS家庭已經(jīng)搬到大鵬或附近的社區(qū)，離學(xué)校很近。這些同學(xué)們每天早上到達(dá)學(xué)校，每天晚上回家。當(dāng)然，這是家庭的自主選擇。有些家庭更愿意讓他們的孩子住在學(xué)生宿舍。但是，如果您對自己的住所選擇有一定的靈活性，我邀請您考慮一下美麗的大鵬或是附近的許多優(yōu)秀社區(qū)!
